Philadelphia Movie Theaters

Going to the movies in Philadelphia is considered a great experience.  Over the years many well known movie theaters that were dispersed throughout the city of Philadelphia have now closed their doors giving way to developers and signs of the times.  Movie theaters have once stretched across Market Street, Chestnut Street, and even 52nd Street. For those of you who frequented these classic theaters remember such names as: The Milgram, The Fox, The Goldman, The Capital, The Nixon, Sam Eric, The Regency, The Locust and even the drive-in movie theater that use to sit in the Jerry's Corner area in Philly.   While remembering some of the good old times, standing in long lines, especially to see the newest Al Pacino movie in the 80's entitled "Scarface."  For this particular movie, lines stretched down Chestnut Street from the entrance of The Sam Eric that use to sit between 19th Chestnut & 20th Chestnut, all the way to the corner of the next block.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, of course The Capital and The Nixon were among my favorites.   After enjoying a good double karate feature at The Capital for only $1; often I would keep my continuous flow of energy going by imitating the martial arts characters in the movies right outside the movie theater.   In the moment of my personal hype, I'd normally browse through the movie posters and get even more excited by the up and coming movies for the next weekend.  Boy, did I look forward to that.  Now, Philadelphia Movie Theaters have gravitated more into suburban areas changing some of my personal and favorite entertainment landmarks of the 80's and 90's. There's nothing like the good old days when going to the movie theaters here in Philly was more of an awesome experience as a teen.  Seldom, I go to the movie theaters, but whenever I do, my current choices are The Bridge at 40th and Walnut Street and Riverview at Columbus Boulevard.  Now my excitement and movie craze are more centered around the delivery of movies on Netflix.
